Warriors rumors say that Andrew Wiggins “probably” won’t come back this season because of his leave

Golden State Warriors Brace for Potential Playoff Run Without Andrew Wiggins

Andrew Wiggins, a star for the Golden State Warriors, may sit out the upcoming 2022–23 NBA season.

On Wednesday’s episode of The Herd on Fox Sports, Colin Cowherd reported that he was told last night that Wiggins “likely doesn’t return for the season.” He clarified that no final choices had been made but that the Warriors “have come to terms” with the idea.

Since Golden State’s 135-126 victories over the Washington Wizards on February 13, Wiggins has been sidelined. The next day, the Warriors announced that he would not play against the Los Angeles Clippers for personal reasons. After a few weeks, there has been no change in his condition.

Steve Kerr, the team’s head coach, addressed the situation on Saturday, telling reporters that he hopes the 6’7″ wing will return to the lineup but wants the player to prioritize himself first.

Without Wiggins, the reigning NBA champions have gone 7-5, so all hope is still possible. They have a 36-33 record for fifth place in the Western Conference.

Andrew Wiggins

The 2021-22 All-Star contributed significantly to the team’s success and helped them win the championship in the previous year. In the playoffs, he was one of the best perimeter defenders for the Warriors and averaged 16.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.

If he also misses the playoffs, his defensive efforts will be greatly missed. According to NBA.com, the Warriors have the fourteenth-worst defensive rating (113.4) but the ninth-best defensive rating (112.1) over the past month.

In light of Kerr’s and Cowherd’s comments, Golden State will defend its title in the 2023 playoffs without one of its key contributors from the previous season.

Final Thoughts

The NBA Updates reveal that the news that Andrew Wiggins “probably” won’t come back this season due to personal reasons is a blow to the Golden State Warriors’ playoff hopes. However, the team has managed to maintain a solid record without him, and head coach Steve Kerr has emphasized that Wiggins’ well-being is the top priority.

If Wiggins misses the playoffs, his absence will be felt on the defensive end, where he was one of the team’s best performers. Nonetheless, the Warriors remain a strong team with championship experience and will undoubtedly continue to compete at a high level.
